Our desire and mission are to let every child know how precious they are in God’s sight and that they are loved by God not because of anything that they do, good or bad,  but because of what Jesus has done for them. Located in Bay City, Michigan, St. John Amelith is a parochial school in the Lutheran tradition. We believe in and trust in God the Father who created us, the Son who died and rose for us, and the Spirit who lives in and guides us.

Offering a Quality Christian Educational Experience

Since 1852, our school has been a beacon of the love of Jesus, providing a Christian and caring atmosphere in and out of the classroom. We are proud that the foundation of faith and learning we instill in students has helped our graduates succeed in many vocations, such as accountants, attorneys, doctors, electricians, plumbers, pastors, and teachers.

Our smaller classes lets us focus on the student. This individual attention helps with academic performance and the fostering of a Christian attitude. Our school provides:

• Currently serving grades 1-4 with all day Kindergarten
• Preschool starting age 3 includes full day (8 am-3 pm) and half day morning (8 am-11 am) also available
• National Assessment for monitoring student growth issues three times during the school year
• Teachers are certified by the state of Michigan
• Departmentalized Education with teachers specializing in Math, PE, STEM, English, Language Arts, Art, Technology, Life Skills and Social Studies
• School seeks out new opportunities for students interested in specialties
• Hot lunch with a nominal fee per day
• Current up-to-date curriculums

Addressing the Ever-Changing Needs of Students and Families

In the 170+ years, St. John Amelith has extended and adapted our parochial school services to serve our students and families better. While the world changes, our commitment to providing an outstanding education in an atmosphere of Christ’s love never does. Additions include:

• Newer expanded building facility in 2006.
• Before and after school extended childcare (6:30 am to 6 pm) for working parents
• Tutoring provided for those who might benefit from it.
• Scholarship programs for those who qualify.
• Extracurricular activities: youth group, vacation bible school, and holiday activities
• All 4-year-old preschool students will receive free tuition through the GSRP Program.

Assuring the Safety of Staff, Students, and Visitors

At St. John Amelith, we prioritize the safety of our staff, students, and visitors. We have implemented numerous safeguards to ensure a secure learning environment. We encourage you to request a copy of our safety plan or schedule a visit to meet our teachers and tour our school. Our safety protocols are designed in accordance with local law agency’s guidelines. These guidelines include:

• Doors locked once school starts.
• Visitors coming to school visible on camera before admittance.
• In the unlikely event of an emergency, the school has developed a critical response plan with local agencies, such as making plans of the school and campus, including pictures readily available to these agencies for follow-through.
• Numerous drills performed throughout the year and posted on the website for transparency, such as fire drills, weather drills, and lockdown drills, to name a few.
